Abstract
The conversion time for CH4 molecules in the librational and free sublattices (LS and FS) of β-methane due to the effect of paramagnetic oxygen impurity is measured. It is shown that oxygen catalyzes conversion in LS much more strongly since the interaction between CH4 and O2 molecules is of quasi-resonance nature in this case, and the coupling constants of translational and angular motion for this pair of molecules are increased. As regards FS, O2 affects only the conversion rate of CH4 molecules nearest to it, while more distant molecules are converted in the same way as in pure methane.
