Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of on-the-job training for community nurses′ core competence, in order to provide the evidence for the revision of this program. Methods By cluster sampling method, 56 nurses were recruited who took part in Wuxi community health service center on-the-job training. Before and after the training, the nurses were investigated by China registered nurses′ core competence scale to evaluate the effect of training. Results After the job training, the mean total score of community nurses′ core competence was improved from (153.23±32.67) to (168.26±41.60) (t=2.10, P<0.05). After training, nurses on the regular payroll or not, different income level had difference with statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusions The on-the-job training has a positive effect on improving the core competence of nurses, helping nurses grasp learning opportunities to improve the personal and professional level, providing health education to patients in any time, using a variety of methods to find relevant research data and findings which applied to nursing practice. Appointment and wage income are the influencing factors of community nurses′ competence. Key words: Community nurses; Core competence; On-the-job training
