Abstract

The Tb 3+ 5D 3- 5D 4 cross-relaxation process has been studied in the one-dimensional compound K 2YF 5 through the decay curves of 5D 3 and 5D 4 emissions. The results show that the Tb 3+ ions are not homogeneously distributed in the lattice but are clustered, with a probable predominating ion-ion interaction along the chains.
