Abstract

1. Boron hast no effect on the hardenability of high-strength cast iron quenched from 850°C. Mo is the most effective addition to improve hardenability on quenching from 850°C. 2. In quenching from 900°C, high-strength cast iron alloyed with Cu, Ni, Mo or B develops a higher hardenability than unalloyed iron. At the higher quenching temperature, the most effective in this respect is nickel.
