Abstract

Due to its renewability, research on the influence of bio materials in composites is important for the advancement of engineering materials. In this study, an attempt is made to replace basalt fiber with glass fiber. Milled glass fiber is used as a filler material to enhance the fatigue life of the basalt fiber. Various weight percent of milled glass fiber such as 3 wt% and 5 wt% were used for this study. Tensile test was performed and found that 3 wt% based filler infused basalt/epoxy composite has improved tensile strength than the 5 wt% based filler basalt/epoxy composite. Fatigue test has been performed to study the effect on incorporation of milled glass fiber on the basalt/epoxy composite materials and results showed that better fatigue life in basalt fiber embedded with 3 wt% milled glass fiber rather than neat basalt/epoxy and 5 wt% based basalt fiber composites.
