Abstract
Abstract Experiments were made on the nature of fungal competition on sal leaf-litter with emphasis on the antibiotic action of culture filtrates. The culture filtrates of Mortierella subtilissima, Aspergillus candidus, A. flavus, A. niger, Penicillium rubrum, Papulaspora sp., Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis were found most effective in suppressing the growth of various leaf-litter fungi. Dominant fungi which displayed best competitive tolerance to the staling products of culture filtrates were Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, A. sclerotiorum, A. terreus and Trichoderma harzianum.
