Abstract

The hydration of Portland cement is retarded in the presence of melment whereas compressive strength is increased in its presence. The retardation of hydration is due to adsorption of melment over the cement surface, whereas the increase in compressive strength may be due to lowering of large capillary pores in the system. A hydration model is proposed.
