Abstract

A previous theoretically predicted b λ value of the hypernucleus 5 ΛHe using a direct-type Λ potential, obtained by analyzing the binding-energy data of the hypernuclei 3 ΛH and 4 ΛH and the Λp low-energy scattering data, has been in excess of 5 MeV as compared to the experimentally determined value of 3.12 ± 0.02 MeV. It was speculated that this overbinding could be alleviated by introducing a Majorana component into the ΛN potential. Analysis made here indicates that the Majorana effect on reducing B Λ( 5 Λ He) is minimal and is not sufficient to explain the overbinding problem.
