Abstract

The present study deals with the experimental investigations during plastic deformation of a dual phase steel sheet in uniaxial tension under a magnetic field, applied in the longitudinal direction of the tensile specimen. To ascertain the changes in tensile properties, the experiments are performed with and without magnetic field. The microstructural and texture investigations are done using field emission scanning electron microscopy in the samples taken from the middle of the tensile tested with 20% of gauge length (20% engineering strain) with and without magnetic field. The results show an increase in compressive residual stress, microhardness and anisotropy of the sheet when tested with magnetic field which may affect the formability of tested sheet. It is also observed that the magnetic field affects the texture during plastic deformation and renders a strong texture as compared to that of specimen tested without magnetic field.
