Abstract

AbstractA previous theory of the temperature dependence of the impurity resistance, is applied to those alloy systems where the constituent atoms have nearly equal masses. An expression is developed for the matrix element describing the coupling of the unperturbed phonons with the impurity electrons. Detailed calculations are made for a silver—cadmium dilute alloy, silver being the host metal. Satisfactory agreement with the experimental values is obtained. The results show that in this alloy system resonance states below the Fermi level are formed. Further it is shown that localized states are formed when the structure is h.c.p. and resonance states when the structure is cubic.
