Abstract

1. 1. Treatment with lithium chloride (2 mmol/kg. daily for 14 days) in the rat did not affect Mg ++-ATPase or (Na++K +)-dependent ATPase in the brain-stem, cortex, extrapyramidal nuclei, adrenal glands, or mucosa of the small intestine. 2. 2. Microsomal ATPase in the salivary glands increased under lithium: in the parotid (Na ++K +)-dependent ATPase increased while in the submaxillary gland the Mg ++-ATPase activity was elevated. 3. 3. In the mucosa of the colon Mg ++-ATPase was elevated and (Na ++K +)-dependent ATPase was reduced after treatment with lithium.
