Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of lingual functional training on the recovery of language function in patients with complex urethral stricture undergoing urethral reconstruction using lingual mucosa. Methods One hundred patients who underwent urethral reconstruction using lingual mucosa were randomly divided into two groups:50 patients in experimental group and 50 patients in control group. The patients in the control group accepted traditional nursing care. The patients in the experimental group accepted nursing intervention and lingual functional training. The tongue wound, articulation ability with Chinese dysarthria, verbal ability with Jiyan score evaluation were observed and evaluated on day 1,day 3,day 5 and day 7 after operation in the two groups. Results On the 7th day after operation, the total effective rate in the recovery of language function by communication was 92.0% in the experimental group and 68.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (x2 =7.563,P =0.006).And,on the 7th day after operation, the lingual flexibility in the patients in the experimental group showed more flexible than that in the control group, mainly in the horizontal motion, retraction, licking and chewing function.Articulation and verbal ability in the experimental group also got improved in comparison to the control group. Conclusions The patients undergoing urethral reconstruction using lingual mucosa who accept lingual functional training and intervention show good compliance, whose articulation ability, verbal ability, lingual flexibility, and quality of life are significantly improved. Key words: Language barriers; Lingual functional training; Urethral reconstruction using lingual mucosa
