Abstract

In this work, the effect of laser hardening on increasing the hardness and wear resistance of combined protective coatings obtained by gas-flame and/or laser surfacing is studied. The integral hardness of coatings obtained by the studied technologies with different proportions of WC-8Co and viscous matrix is calculated. It has been found that laser hardening has a positive effect on the hardness of the WC-8Co pins and on the hardness of the nickel-based matrix containing up to 55 % WC, but its effect on the gas-flame surfacing is negative. The increment of integral hardness reached 5.1 % for WC—8Co and 3.5 % for the matrix.
