Abstract
Bismuth vanadate Bi 2VO 5.5 (BiV), ceramics have been fabricated with various concentrations of potassium chloride (KCl). X-ray powder diffraction studies confirm that KCl, at higher concentrations, reacts with BiV and gives rise to Bi 12V 2O 23 and KVO 3 phases. The microstructural studies carried out, using scanning electron microscopy, reveal that the grain size of BiV ceramics increases with increase in KCl content as a consequence of segregation of molten KCl at the grain boundaries during sintering. The dielectric constant ( ε r) as well as dielectric loss (tan δ) are found to decrease with increase in KCl concentration.
