Abstract

At present the features of boundary layers near to the sea bed are not very well known. This applies to such matters as the thickness of the boundary layer in steady currents and the exact nature of the boundary layers in waves, and also the magnitude and shape of the local turbulence spectra, not to mention the sediment transport, associated with these causes. It can thus be seen that considerable uncertainty exists concerning the loading mechanism of pipeline spans. This paper deals with the determination of the natural frequencies of a pipeline in a free span. The basic problem has a strong bearing on the effect of the loading on the pipelines.
