Abstract

Objective To study the effect of intensive nursing education on visual function, self-care ability and treatment compliance of patients with glaucoma. Methods 86 cases of glaucoma admitted in our hospital between February 2014 and January 2015 were randomly divided into control group and observation group according the order of admission, 43 cases in each group. Control group was given routine discharge nursing intervention. On the basis of routine nursing, observation group was given cognitive education, behavioral intervention, psychological and other aspects of intensive nursing. After 5 months of nursing, the visual acuity chart LogMAR score, exercise of self-care agency (ESCA) score and treatment compliance were compared between two groups. Results After nursing intervention, visual acuity LogMAR of observation group was significantly lower than that of control group [(0.39±0.21)vs.(0.54±0.24)], ESCA was significantly higher than that of control group [(139.7±15.2)vs.(116.4±4.6)] (P<0.05). After intensive nursing education, the rate of treatment compliance in observation group was significantly higher than that in control group (86.05% vs.65.12%, P<0.05). Conclusions Health knowledge, psychological education, education of daily behavior guidance and medication guidance and other intensive nursing education for patients with glaucoma can effectively improve patients’ self-care ability and self-efficiency of treatment compliance, which is of important significance in protecting visual function and improving prognosis.
