Abstract

In the present research work, the effect on Hydroxyapatite (HA) on the microstructure, corrosion and cytotoxicity of AZ91D, AJ62 and AM60 alloys has been studied. This research paper emphasized upon synthesis and characterization of commercial AZ91D, AJ62 and AM60 alloys after HA addition in terms of microstructure and corrosion resistance. To abstract it out, HA addition tends to refine the grain size which greatly improves the corrosion resistance by forming protective complex metal hydroxides over the material surface. This phenomenon has been experimentally proved from this research. In conclusion, AZ91D/3HA and AJ62/3HA were identified as potential biomaterials based on their finer grain structure, excellent corrosion resistance and exceptionally non-toxic behaviour applications.
