Abstract
Mechanical properties and microstructure have been investigated in as-cast and as-extruded materials for a Mg-Si-Al alloy (Mg-12.6 wt% Si-4.2 wt% Al). Hot extrusion caused grain refinement, refinement and homogeneous distribution of Mg 2Si particles free of particle-matrix interfacial cracks and therefore the mechanical properties were improved.
