Abstract
Abstract Leucocoryne coquimbensis Phil. inflorescences had satisfactory flower opening (>70%) when harvested after the first flower unfurls. When harvested earlier, the flowers were smaller and paler, and had shorter vase lives. L. coquimbensis inflorescences had an adequate vase life (8–9 days) after holding them at 2 °C for up to 7 days, but vase life was reduced to 5–7 days after holding at 12 or 20 °C for 3 days. With some inflorescences stem bending and twisting occurred after removal from storage. Ethylene exposure reduced vase life of L. coquimbensis , though this was prevented by silver thiosulphate. No endogenous ethylene production could be detected.
