Abstract

1. Compression reduces the wear of cast iron pairs not only with but also without lubrication in sliding friction. 2. The reduced wear of the coupled element of the pair under dry-friction conditions indicates that the internal bonds and the resistance to surface tearing (plucking) during seizure is reduced.
