Abstract

The potentiostatic method has been used to measure the cd/time relations for passive Ni in presence of Br − ions. The results confirm the conclusions made for Cl − in Part I. Activation begins at potentials below the discharge potential for the halogen, and is primarily initiated by ions. Discharge of molecular halogen leads to attack by direct chemical reaction with NiO, and causes the appearance of a second maximum in the E h/log I relation.
