Abstract

In order to obtain more information on the relative contribution of gas phase reactions in the Oxidative Coupling of Methane over La 2 O 3 , two specific reactors have been used. By keeping the same contact time for both reactors, the space time being quite different (factor 1000), we obtained the same methane conversion and CO 2 selectivity, but other selectivities were different. These results suggest that methane conversion and CO 2 formation are mainly controlled by catalytic reactions, whereas the formations of CO, C 2 H 6 and C 2 H 4 are controlled by gas phase reactions in a rather significant way.
