Abstract

The effect of 60Co gamma-ray irradiation on the dielectric properties of ferroelectric (CH3NH3)5Bi2Cl11 has been studied. The broad step-like dielectric anomaly around 160 K does not show appreciable change up to the irradiation dose of 104 C/kg. The result of Strukov et al. [(1999). J. Kor. Phys. Soc., 32, 5216.], which stated that a first order phase transition is induced around 160 K by gamma-ray irradiation, is not reconfirmed. The dielectric constant peak at the Curie temperature is rounded and depressed by irradiations more than about 500 C/kg. This is interpreted as the result of internal bias field induced by radiation defects.
