Effect of fixation with dual-plate on type C fracture of distal humerus

Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of fixation with dual-plate by open reduc-tion on type C fracture of distal humerus. Methods From July 2009 to December 2012,31 patients with type C fracture of distal humerus were treated by internal fixation with dual-plate under open reduction through the posterior elbow. According to the AO/ ASIF classification,9 cases were type C1,15 cases were type C2 and 7 cases were type C3. The average duration of follow-up was 11 months（ranged 9 to 24 months）. The elbow function was assessed by the modified Cassebaum elbow score. Results Twenty-two cases were excellent,4 cases were good,3 cases were fair and 2 cases were poor,and the excellent and good rate was 83. 9% . Conclusions The treatment of type C fracture of distal humerus by internal fixa-tion with dual-plate is not only reliable,but also allow early elbow function exercise and restore the elbow joint function to the greatest.
