Abstract

The usual theory of phonon focusing assumes the validity of "geometrical optics" for phonons. We consider here the corrections to this theory due to the finite wavelength of thermal phonons. It is found that in a typical heat-pulse experiment these corrections are very small. However, it may be possible to observe these wave optics effects in a suitably designed experiment.
