Abstract

Abstract In the present paper, properties of a new fibre are compared with those of Bamboo fibre which is environmental friendly green composites. The effect of fibre orientation and mechanical properties of Hardwika Binata fibre are compared to Bamboo fibre reinforced composites. Both Bamboo fibre and Hardwika Binata treated with KoH solution are used for reinforcement to enhance the bonding strength between fibre and resin. The composites are prepared by hand layup process for different orientation like (00, 450, 600, and 900) and varying fibre content (0, 8, 16, and 24) and the mechanical properties, chemical resistance and water absorption properties are evaluated. The results obtained with 00 orientation 24% Bamboo fibre got more tensile strength compared to 00 orientation 24% Hardwika Binata fibre. Scanning Electron Microscopy analysis is carried out to find the internal structure (bonding) between fibre and matrix. Thermo-gravimetric Analysis is also carried to know the mass degradation rate and left over residue content of the sample.
