Abstract
The physics of flow are key factors for the performance and stability of a vehicle when it takes higher speed. The previous research was focused on the effect of drag and lift force on car models using either vortex generator or diffuser. In this research work, we have examined the drag and lift force on sports utility vehicle (SUV) with combined vortex generator and diffuser. SUVs are on development to account for more than 45% of global car sales. In addition, the increasing number of electric SUV models released in 2021 means that SUVs are electrifying faster than in previous years. The surface pressure varies around the car model with respect to its speed, which decides the flow characteristics around the car profile. The magnitude of adverse pressure gradient in the downstream of flow causes for fluid particles separated from the wall and driven in the opposite direction of air flow. So, the pressure was diminished behind the car and leads to pressure drag. To overcome the drag force, the significant amount of fuel power consumed and leads to reduce the fuel efficiency of the car. The suitable mechanism was found as vortex generator (VG) combined with diffuser to reduce drag force. It has been determined that at instance of higher wind speed condition, The maximum drag and lift force reduction has achieved as 7.93% and 7.85% respectively for selected car model using the combination of VG and diffuser.
