Abstract

According to a theories of electromagnetism, the electric field and heat generation density distribute affected by the electrode immersion depth was studied in process of electroslag remelting (ESR). The self-adapting meshing method was adopted. The result show that different electrode immersion depth lead to obvious dissimilarity for the electric field and heat generation density distribute. Based on integrating boundary current, the relationship of electrode immersion depth and slag resistance was gotten. Slag resistance presents linear relationship in two scopes. When electrode immersion depth is much deeper, slag resistance is slowly change with electrode immersion depth change. When electrode immersion depth is much shallow, slag resistance is quickly change with electrode immersion depth change. The result prove the importance of the electrode immersion depth control in ESR.
