Abstract
The scattering of light by magnons is studied considering the quadratic magneto-optic coupling and the dipole-dipole interaction in ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic materials. The variation of the intensity of the Stokes and anti-Stokes lines with the external magnetic field and with the angle θ k defined by the wave vector and the magnetization is obtained. The theory is compared with available experimental results in YIG and CrBr 3.
