Abstract

Abstract: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one type of non-communicable diseases with an increasing prevalence. The IDF reported that global prevalence of DM patients were about 8,4% in 2012 and is predicted to rise to 55% by 2035. Regular physical activity and dietary compliance are considered important components of the diabetes management and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 DM. To determine the effect of diabetes gymnastics and nutrition counseling on blood glucose levels in type 2 DM patients. A quasi-experiment, randomized pre and post test group control design was used. The number of respondents were 15 people for each treatment and control group. The data collections were blood glucose levels (BGL) and compliance diet score. Independent T-test was used to determine the effect between variables. There were significant effect of diabetes gymnastic on blood glucose levels and nutrition counseling on dietary compliance in intervention group compared control group. There weren't significant effect of dietary compliance on BGL. Doing diabetes gymnastic three times a week were more effective to lowered BGL in type 2 DM patients. Nutrition counseling were more valuable in enhanced dietary compliance, but dietary compliance doesn't contributes on lowering BGL.
