Abstract
SummaryFeeding cysteine alone or with pyridoxine greatly increased urinary excretion of taurine in young or adult rats fed adequate amounts of pyridoxine. In Vit. B6-deficient young rats, these treatments caused only a slight increase in taurine excretion. The results indicated that the relative increase in urinary excretion of taurine after an oral dose of cysteine or cysteine and pyridoxine might be used as an index of Vit. B6 nutrition.
