Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of curcumin on the proliferative inhibition of human esophageal cancer cell line EC-9706 and study the molecular mechanism. Methods After EC-9706 cells were treated with 50-200 μmol/L curcumin for 12-48 h,Methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) method was used to detect the inhibition rates, and the expression of HSP70 mRNA was analyzed by RT-PCR. Results After curcumin treatment, the growth of EC-9706 cells was inhibited significantly in a time and dose-dependent manner, and the inhibition rates were 18.3%-77.5%(P<0.05).The expression of HSP70 mRNA was down-regulated (P<0.05). Conclusions Curcumin could effectively inhibit the proliferation of EC-9706 cells. Its mechanism may be inhibition of HSP70 mRNA expression. Key words: Curcumin; Esophageal cancer; HSP70
