Abstract

Objective To study the effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) assisted antihypertensive treatment on the prognosis of sleep apnea syndrome (SAHS) with abnormal blood pressure. Methods Seventy patients with abnormal blood pressure and SAHS were enrolled in this study, and were randomly divided into two groups, with 35 cases in each group. The observation group received routine treatment with CPAP, and the control group received routine treatment only. The improvement of blood pressure and sleep quality, blood viscosity and sleep parameters were compared between the two groups before and after treatment, the adverse events of 3 years were recorded in the two groups. Results The SBP, DBP, PSQI score, respiratory related micro awakening, the longest apnea time, low ventilation longest time, the high, middle and low shear of the whole blood viscosity at the end of the treatment in the two groups were significantly lower than those before treatment(P<0.05), the SBP, DBP, PSQI score, respiratory related micro awakening, the longest apnea time, low ventilation longest time, the high, middle and low shear of the whole blood viscosity at the end of the treatment in the observation group were significantly lower than those the control group(P<0.05). The patients in the observation group were followed up for 27.5 months, there were 4 cases with adverse events occurred, the rate was 11.43%. The control group were followed up for 21 months, there were 11 adverse events, the rate was 31.43%, there were significantl differences between the two groups (P<0.05). The median time of the adverse events in the observation group was (34.51±0.84) months, the control group was (28.68±1.98) mouths, there was significant difference between the two groups(Log Rank χ2=4.759, P=0.029). Conclusions The CPAP can significantly improve the blood pressure control effect and sleep quality, reduce the incidence of adverse events, extend event free survival time, and improve the prognosis. Key words: Continuous positive airway pressure; Sleep apnea syndrome; Blood pressure; Prognosis
