Abstract

Coxsackie virus A 7 propagated in monolayers of U-cells inhibits pock formation on the chorioallantoic membrane of fertile chicken eggs and focus formation in monolayers of chick embryo cells by Rous sarcoma virus. In similar experiments with Coxsackie virus B 3, no inhibition of Rous sarcoma virus could be demonstrated. No multiplication of Cox-sackie virus A 7 or B 3 could be demonstrated in any of the systems tested, nor any production of interferon by the viruses. Possible other mechanisms for the interference phenomenon in question are discussed.
