Abstract

Mechanical properties of a range of alloys based upon the AI-4.5Zn-2.5Mg composition have been studied both in air and in a salt water environment. Correlation of microstructural information with alloy composition and with mechanical test data shows that zinc additions have the greater hardening influence, while stress-corrosion cracking is more sensitive to the magnesium content.
