Abstract

Most studies on linear rolling guides usually assume the contact load between the ball and the raceway is uniform, which results in a deviation from the actual conditions. This study aims to establish a load distribution model based on the Hertz contact theory with ball combined interference which is converted from preload, raceway center-distance error, and installation error including ball geometry error. The reliability of the proposed model was verified by a numerical instance for the load distribution and deformation analysis. The result shows that the proposed approach agrees better with the experimental results compared only with the action of the preload. This work can provide an important starting point for studying friction and wear in machine tools.
