Abstract
Summary In a pot experiment, the effect of Mn, Fe and Zn on the activity of phosphate dissolving bacteria (PDB) in a calcareous soil, cultivated with faba beans, was investigated. Results show that the counts of PDB might not be used as a sole parameter determining their activity. Furnishing the calcareous soil with micronutrients increased the P-uptake and dry weight of faba beans 1.46 and 1.57 times of control in inoculated soils. Generally, inoculation with PDB was more effective in increasing P-uptake and dry weight, compared with the sole application of micronutrients.
