Abstract
This study was undertaken to compare the effect of calcium hydroxide mixed with water and glycerin and used as an intracanal dressing on the sealing ability of four different root canal sealers – two calcium hydroxide based root canal sealers (Sealapex & Acroseal), a zinc oxide eugenol based root canal sealer (Tubliseal) and a silicon based root canal sealer (Roekoseal). In this study 100 freshly extracted maxillary central and lateral incisors with single root and straight canals were taken, the anatomical crowns were resected 1mm above the level of proximal cementoenamel junction and divided into 12 groups and one positive and one negative control group. From this study it was concluded that in view of the advantages and the favorable sealing ability the use of Ca(OH)2 as an intracanal medicament along with Ca(OH)2 based sealer used for obturation appears to be the best choice.
