Abstract

In 29 mongrel dogs, venous return was completely drained from the caval veins to an oxygenator and returned to the femoral arteries with a roller pump at a constant perfusion rate. Blood pressures in both caval veins were kept constant by an automatic control system. The oxygenator weight was recorded and showed changes of the intracorporeal blood volume, i. e. of systemic venous blood volume since allowance was made for parallel changes in arterial blood volume.
