Abstract
Depo-medroxy progesterone Acetate (DMPA) is one type of contraception that is widely used. The effect of DMPA suppresses estrogen production. To reduce the hypoestrogen effect, natural ingredients in the form of phytoestrogens can be used. Bengkuang (Pachyrhizus erosus) is known as a source of phytoestrogens. This study aims to determine the effect of giving ethanol extract of bengkuang on estrogen levels and ERβ expression in a hypoestrogenic rats model with DMPA. This experimental study used 25 rats divided into five groups, consisting of one negative control group without DMPA and bengkuang extract and four treatment groups given DMPA at a dose of 2.7 mg. Three treatment groups were given jicama extract at different doses for 14 days. The study's results using the one-way ANOVA test showed a significant difference (p <0.05) that bengkuang extract showed changes in estrogen levels and ERβ expression in hypoestrogen model rats.
