Abstract

The composition and the grain size of austenite together play important role in controlling the matrix phases of the steel through alteration of austenite transformation kinetics. This work presents how altering prior austenite grain size changes the product microstructure in a plain carbon steel and a Nb containing steel after several heat treatment simulations. The different phases present in the microstructure has been identified and quantified. Influence of matrix microstructures on the mechanical properties of the steels will also be discussed.
