Abstract

Here we present the fabrication of Rh6G doped microring embedded hollow polymer optical fiber and analyze the effect of Au/Ag bimetallic nanoparticles in their spectral properties. The presence of bimetallic nanoparticles lowers the lasing threshold of the fiber laser with an enhanced emission. The threshold energy was reduced from 2.1 mJ to 1.4 mJ in the presence of bimetallic nanoparticles. Also, the emission spectrum gets blue-shifted due to the large scattering of the bimetallic nanoparticles. The influence of its scattering property in the reduction of lasing threshold was also studied and the possibility of random laser was verified. From the analysis, we observed that the combined effect of the scattering and plasmonic enhancement by the bimetallic nanoparticles together with the waveguide geometry of the fiber provide sufficient feedback for the lasing and reduce the threshold. Also, the fiber shows better photostability in the presence of bimetallic nanoparticles.
