Abstract

Superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) combined with air-entraining agents (AEAs) were used to improve the frost resistance of mortar pepared under low air pressure in this study. Effects of SAPs combined with AEAs on the pore structure and frost resistance of mortar were investigated. Results showed that the combined use of SAPs and AEAs could improve the frost resistance of mortar made under low air pressure efficiently. This is further clarified by the changes of the pore structure. SAPs had a better performance in air-entraining as well as internal curing under low air pressure than those under a normal atmosphere. In addition, SAPs combined with AEAs could greatly optimize the pore structure of mortar prepared at low air pressure, especially reduce the number of pores larger than 200 nm. Moreover, correlations between pore characteristic parameters and frost resistance were discussed based on the linear fitting method and grey correlation analysis method. Finally, a modified hydraulic pore pressure model considering the influence of air pressure was established, and calculation results showed that the hydraulic pore pressure during freezing decreased due to low air pressure.
