Abstract

The present work describes the effect of acceptor and donor doping on the state of protons in block-layered proton conductors based on BaLaInO4. It was proved that the increase of the dopant concentration (both Ba2+ and Ti4+) leads to the increase of the amount of water uptake and at the same time to the decrease in the contribution of protons, involved in the strong H-bonds. The main factor determined the increase of concentration of protonic species is not the nature of appeared oxygen defects (oxygen vacancy or oxygen interstitial), but the increase in the unit cell volume during doping.
