Abstract

The effect of a magnetic field on the relaxation rate of the ground state of ytterbium impurity in gold is computed up to third order in the exchange integrals, within a Hamiltonian which describes the resonant scattering of Ytterbium impurities and takes into account both spin and orbit exchange scattering and crystalline field effect. It is found that the zero-field T ln T behaviour of the relaxation rate disappears completely for only a 10kG field in Au Yb alloys.
