Abstract

ABSTRACT The present study opens one more way for alternate fuel that is diesel engine can be run with biodiesel without diesel. In order to meet this objective, a diesel engine fueled by nerium biodiesel (NB) and lemon peel oil (LP) along with addition of 1,4-Dioxane as an additive. Nerium biodiesel and LP oil blends with the combination of NB60LP30, NB50LP40, NB40LP50 and NB30LP60 along with 10% of 1,4-Dioxane were used. The tests were conducted with different loads from 0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 kgf on single cylinder DI-CI engine and out comes were compared with diesel. Apart from all blends, NB60LP30 blend with 10% of 1,4-Dioxane shows higher Brake thermal efficiency, lower BSFC with all emissions reduction including NOx as compared to diesel. At full load conditions, HC, CO and smoke emission were decreased as 28, 12, and 18% respectively than that of diesel. Based on these acceptable results, NB60LP30 blend with 10% of 1,4-Dioxane can be used as a fuel in a diesel engine without any alterations on engine’s hardware.
