Abstract

The absorption spectra of γ-irradiated solutions of some acid dyes in various solvents are investigated. The characteristic times of radiation-induced destruction of dyes in the solutions are determined. It is shown that irreversible radiative discoloration of solutions occurs as a result of the interaction of the dye molecules with the oxygen-containing radicals formed in radiolysis of solvents. Practical recommendations for increasing the radiation stability of the solutions of acid dyes and for using them as detectors of a dose of hard radiation are given.
