Abstract

The effect of γ-irradiation in air and under vacuum at a temperature of about 30°C on a series of polyorganosiloxanes containing siloxadihydrophenanthrenyl units and lacquer coatings based on them is studied. It is found that the polymers studied become crosslinked on irradiation under vacuum. On irradiation in air partial degradation of the main chain occurs as well as crosslinking. The radiation resistance range is determined, and the reasons for the variations in radiation resistance of the polyorganosiloxanes within this range are discussed. The changes in radiation resistance range on irradiating the lacquer coatings based on the organosiloxanes studied are indicated.
