Abstract

Mindfulness meditation has shown very promising results in modulating experiential awareness of the present moment. These results have sparked interest in research into this technique in the experience or awareness of the passage of time (time perception). However, there is a lack of studies that systematically examine its effects in healthy people. The objective of this systematic review is to summarize the studies that evaluated the effectiveness of mindfulness in the perception of time in healthy people. A search in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and LILACs databases was carried out from 2013 to 2024, using the following key words: meditation, mindfulness, time perception, Underestimation and overestimation of subjective time. 239 studies were found, of which 10 met the eligibility criteria. Limitations of this study encompass a number of aspects including the paucity of data available for certain categories of outcomes, suggesting a significant gap in existing research. Regarding temporal perception, no homogeneity of results was found that expresses the relationship between mindfulness and overestimation, underestimation or stabilization of time.
