Abstract

This study aims (1) to explain the application of the thematic learning model in improving the reading achievement of students at SD Negeri I Sribatara Buton Regency (2) to explain the effectiveness of the thematic learning model in improving the reading achievement ability of students at SD Negeri I Sribatara, Buton Regency. The type of research used is a type of classroom action research which in practice is known as PTK (classroom action research). The classroom research was applied in two cycles. Between the experimental and control classes there is no comparison class. Experiment class as well as control class. The data collected after the treatment was classified with experimental class data. The results showed that there was an increase in student learning outcomes during the learning process. Learning outcomes in the control class show differences. However, these differences did not indicate a significant increase in learning outcomes, cycle I reached a value of 71.00 and cycle II reached a value of 72.50. The results of the two cycles are only in the sufficient category. Learning outcomes in the experimental class showed a significant difference. The first cycle reached a value of 82.50 while in the second cycle it reached a value of 88.00 and was in the good category. The increase in learning outcomes shows that the thematic learning model is effectively used to improve reading achievement of students at SD Negeri I Sribatara.
